Math Hobby Projects

Math Hobby Projects

The math students in Mrs. Busler’s classes created a math hobby project as an authentic assessment to the unit of study. The students wrote a paragraph explaining how their favorite hobby relates to math in 4 different ways. Additionally, the students created 3 word problems that involved an algebraic expression or equation that related to their hobby. To wrap up the assessment, the students took a gallery walk and had to write and solve at least 10 different student created problems. This project is also a great way to get to know one another more and for the teacher to relate math in an interesting way by incorporating students’ interests in further math problems. Projects included things such as; sports, reading, art, baking, cooking, lego building, computer games, horse back riding, and story writing.
